2009-2010 Technology
Fund Update
The Technology Fund was
established to raise funds for technology advancement needs
throughout the district. In 2008-2009, over $106,000 was
raised, resulting in the purchase of 27 additional SMART Boards
which have been placed throughout the district. As of Fall
2009, there are now 54 SMART Boards in our schools.
In 2009-2010 our efforts
will be broadened to include:
-
STEM Initiatives (Science, Technology,
Engineering & Math) including Project Lead the Way
(PLTW)
-
SMART Boards
-
Computers and software to support curricular enrichment
With a proposed reduction in
the Technology Budget for the 2010-2011 school year, the school
district will be relying on the Technology Fund more than ever
to help maintain the excellence that is synonymous with MTSD.
How Can You Help?
Annual Campaign:
There are five giving options, one of which is the Technology
Fund. Donations given to the Annual Campaign Technology Fund
will go towards the initiatives noted above.
Tartan Ball: This major
fundraiser for the MTEF will be held January 30, 2010 at the Pfister Hotel. At the
Tartan Ball, there is an event called “Fund-a-Grant.”
Proceeds from the “Fund-a-Grant” go directly to the Technology
Fund.
Spring Raffle:
In April 2010, MTEF will host the Spring Raffle at all six schools
with winners being announced Monday, April 26th.
This is a great way for everyone to get involved to help
support the Technology Fund.

What do M-T teachers
think about SMART Boards?
Read
Teacher SMART Board Testimonials.
"The
SMART Board technology granted to us by the MTEF has been more
beneficial to me than anything I have used in my 20 years of teaching at
Homestead High School. It allows me to create lessons that are large,
understandable, and interactive on a daily basis. This technology also
gives me the ability to incorporate different forms of multi-media into
my lessons without plugging in CDs or videos. I can give my students
visuals I would never have dreamed of presenting even a year ago and has
them asking to participate consistently in every class. I am a far more
effective teacher today than I was on September 1st because of SMART
Boards. Thanks ever so much for the support."
Ernie Millard,
HHS Teacher
"When I use the SMART
Board interactive whiteboard in my classroom, the students
become active participants in their learning, literally. It
allows the students to physically interact with lessons which
help them to gain a personal understanding of the material.
Abstract concepts come alive as they are able to be demonstrated
and manipulated using the SMART Board."
