GRANTS

Grants are awarded annually to all public schools in the Mequon-Thiensville School District (MTSD).

In 2006, a Grants Advisory Committee (GAC) was formed to address the shift in the Foundation's grant funding focus due to the fiscal pressure facing the school district. The committee continues to be the mechanism to assist the Foundation in identifying meaningful funding opportunities.

The committee is comprised of representatives from the Mequon-Thiensville School District (elementary/middle school/high school teachers and principals, specialists and district administrators), our Executive Director and Foundation board members.

Fund allocation is determined by the GAC with the Board of Directors' approval.

The mission of the committee is to identify, prioritize and communicate the needs of the district in order to advise district and funding leadership on the use of private money based on the immediate and long-range goals of the district.

Priority is given to the following:

  1. Funding essential programs "at risk" due to budgetary pressure.
  2. Funding new programs/projects designed to assist the classroom teacher as class sizes rise and the needs of students increase.
  3. Continue to support innovative efforts to provide academically challenging programs that prepare our students for life after high school.
  4. Support efforts to explore alternative education delivery models.

Grants are awarded throughout the school year, with the majority awarded in the Spring.

AWARDS
The Range Line School Excellence In Teaching Award is given to a teacher who has demonstrated excellence in teaching.  This teacher is selected based upon nominations from district staff members, students or parents.

The Middle School Excellence in Teaching Award is a new award started in 2009 to recognize excellence in teaching at the Middle School level.  The teacher is selected based upon nominations from district staff members, students or parents.

The Martin Family Achievement Award is no longer an active award as of 2008.  It was made annually to a member of the Homestead High School staff who demonstrated exemplary conduct in the preparation of Homestead High School students for admission to or study in college.

The Grants Advisory Committee, a committee of the Mequon-Thiensville Education Foundation, will review all nominations and recommend the award recipient to the full Foundation Board.
